The Global Economic crises has hit Soca in Trinidad & Tobago. The International Soca Monach has reduced it's first prize from $1 million to $630,000.
This lucrative prize, which topped $1 million for the first time in 2009, has had to be cut because the Ministry of Culture is maintaining a $2 million allocation to the competition's private promoter Caribbean Prestige Foundation (CPF).
Caribbean Prestige Foundation got $2,000,000 in 2009 and they have retained that level in 2010, Culture Minister Marlene McDonald announced to the media during a briefing at the ministry's office at La Fantasie, St Ann's yesterday.
McDonald disclosed that CPF chairman William Munro had applied for $4 million to help finance staging the competition, which also has a Groovy Soca Monarch category. In 2009, the first prize for the Groovy Soca Monarch was $500,000.
