Vincy Mas 2009 Official events announced
12 April 2009 11:27 am
Vincy Mas is undoubtedly the premier festival on the calendar of events in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The festival serves not only to attract visiting friends and relatives from the disapora who we refer to as VFR's in tourism terms, but also to entice visitors from the regional and international markets to our shores.

It is in this light that over the next three months, the Carnival Development Corporation in conjunction with its partners, including the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority(SVGTA), LIAT and LIME will seek to conduct an intensive marketing and promotion campaign locally, regionally and internationally. Currently negotiations with respect to campaigns in the region as well as in the USA, Canada ,UK and Europe are in train.

The newly-established St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority will be contributing EC $300,000.00 towards the promotion of this year's festival. These promotions will be jointly coordinated through the SVG Tourism offices and advertising agencies in Trinidad and Tobago, London, Toronto and New York. They will feature innovations including subway advertising in New York and London. This will be in addition to print and electronic ads, and the showcasing of the festival at trade and travel events including the Seatrade Convention in Miami and the International Travel Bourse(ITB) in Berlin during the month of March and will seek to build on the promotion of the festival that took place in London at the World Travel Market in November 2008.

The SVGTA will also collaborate with the CDC to ensure that the posters and view cards are widely distributed through its offices and information desks locally and overseas.

Every effort will also be made to promote the festival on the worldwide web on

and

www.carnivalsvg.com

.

The Carnival Development Corporation and the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority will seek to build on the past efforts of the Ministries of Tourism and Culture to ensure that the number of visitors and, by extension, visitor expenditure increase during the 2009 festival. Efforts are also being made to build on our relations with LIAT to offer package deals for flights and accommodation for the festival. Last year LIAT, the Ministry of Tourism and St. Vincent and the Grenadines Hotel and Tourism Association partnered to offer special packages and we hope that this can be extended this year and be even more successful.

The Carnival Development Corporation will be exploring the possibilities of inviting TEMPO to cover and promote the festival. Further details on this will be shared with you as they become final.

We trust that all of these proposals and discussions will materialize to further promote Vincy Mas in 2009 and the years ahead. Our 2009 marketing and promotions campaign will seek to attract as many Vincentians and visitors as possible to our shores. The 2008 preliminary figures show that in the period June - July, just over 18,000 stay-over visitor visited our islands; it is our hope that this figure will increase in 2009.

The Carnival Development Corporation and the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority recognize the impacts of the global financial crisis on travel trends worldwide and will endeavour to use every means and opportunity afforded us to ensure that Vincy Mas 2009 is indeed the hottest carnival in the Caribbean and one that will continue to grow in every respect!
