Radkals' Power of Colors

RADIKAL launches with the theme “The Power of Colour” for Crop Over 2010. We take a closer look at the therapeutic value of colour. Colour evokes certain emotions and moods. Red energizes, blue has a calming, soothing effect, orange is invigorating and pink is sensuous.

There are four glamorous sections: ‘Radiant Red’, ‘Tranquil Blue’, ‘Flamboyant Orange’ and ‘Pink Passion’. You can go online to view the costumes at www.radikal.bb or visit the band house at De FX Bar, Codrington Road, St. Michael. Band house numbers are 417-0096, 241-6288 or 245-6393.

The package includes a full costume, food and drinks, lots of giveaways and great entertainment.

BNB Parade is Back for Opening Gala

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER of the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) Dr. Donna
Hunte-Cox says the NCF will be expanding its focus on other aspects of the festival, particularly the visual arts, literary arts and theatre.

Speaking at the official launch of the Barbados National Bank (BNB) Crop Over Opening Gala, Dr. Hunte Cox lauded the bank’s support over the past eleven years, noting that BNB had supported the NCF through various changes and had remained a loyal corporate citizen.

Meanwhile, Manager Retail Services Andrew Campbell confirmed that the much loved parade will once again be a part of the Crop Over Opening Gala.

He indicated that the bank has realised the importance of culture to the overall development of a nation notably through its various expressions including art, music, dance and theatre he said it bridges racial, social, and generational gaps.

The BNB Crop Over Festival Opening Gala is scheduled for July 03, starting with a procession of costumed participants from the General Post Office at Cheapside through Bridgetown to Queens Park.

After following the ceremonial delivery of last canes and blessings, patrons will be treated to entertainment, side walk cafes, heritage displays, play parks for children and an array of indigenous food and drink from stalls operated by locals and members of the Multi-National community.

Final Cavalcade a hit

THE FINAL LIME/HOTT 95.3 FM Fantastic Four Cavalcade was held at the National Stadium on Saturday night.

As is the custom a mammoth crowd gathered to take in some of the best acts for the season like Statement, King Shepherd, Lorenzo, Nard and John Mohameed and new ones like Queen T and Linskee.

The island’s Parish Ambassadors were introduced to the audience and masquerade bands Ravers, Youth Explosion and Katchafyah displayed costumes.

The highlight of the night was a set from stand-up comedian Trevor Eastmond and the debut performance of the band Soka Kartel with front singers Blood and Mikey who sang all their hits from this year and previous years; they also backed Mr. Dale whose Drop It is getting increasing airplay and requests at fetes across the island.

According to the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) calendar the next official event is slated for Wednesday, 16 June at 8:30 am which is the Arts & Craft Symposium at the Grand Salle of the Central Bank.

Crop Over 2010 will be launched with the BNB Opening Gala in Queen’s Park on Saturday, July 03 at 11:00 am.
