The Crop Over Super Six Cavalcades

The
Crop Over
Cavalcades are a welcomed addition to the Crop Over festival.
The cavalcades travel across the island, touching down in each
parish from May June. The Cavalcades have now evolved to
being the place where the hits of the Season are launched and new
comers get a chance to trade-in 'stage fright' for a mic a jumping
crowd. Good
Bajan food,
good bajan entertainment and the perfect community hot-spot make the
cavalcades the best way to start the hectic season!
The Junior Monarch Semi-finals
[July 5th
2009]
This year
the Junior Calypso Monarch competition moves into its 21st year. The
Juniors have proven time and time again, that they are motivated and
serious enough about calypso to have their own tent and rightfully
so, they have been able to draw large crowds. So successful is this
venture that there has been a steady increase of entrants, more
noticeably in the 8-12yr age group.

Pan In De City
[July
19th 2008]
The
streets are alive with sound of music, pan and tuk music! On July 21
we make our way through the streets of Bridgetown, swaying to the
rhythms of pan and the tuk bands, with our final destination being
Independence Square where the event climaxes to beautiful and
powerful renditions from a leading steel orchestra.

Pan Pun De Sand
[July
18th 2009]
The most
anticipated pan event of the Festival season. Pan Pun de Sand is a
perfect day out - sea, sun, sand, steel band music and lots of fun.
This event offers a line-up that usually includes steel-pan bands
from the neighboring islands of Trinidad and Tobago and Antigua, the
Barbados National Youth Steel Orchestra, the Combined Schools Steel
Orchestra, and more.....

Pic-O-De Crop Semis
[July
25th 2009]
Pic-O-De-Crop is the social commentary calypso competition. It is a
'battle' that is waged in words in the various tents across the
island and on judging nights. The format - after the first round of
judging in the calypso tents, the 18 best calypsonians advance to
the semi-final stage of the competition. The 10 best are then chosen
for the Finals and from that a winner and a new calypso monarch is
'crowned' and presented with a bounty of prizes, including a new
car.

Junior Kadooment
[July 18th 2009]
A day
dedicated to the children. Children are encourage from very
tender ages to take part and become familiar with the Crop Over
Festival and its history. Some as young as 2 years have been
seen parading before the judges in fine style. Children are dressed
in brightly coloured costumes, waving flags with painted faces, they
dance and prance in the streets, much like their adult counterparts,
to the sweet melodious sounds of the season. The parade for
the children is not a very long one and climaxes at the National
Stadium

Party Monarch Finals
[July 26th 2009]
The event
has certainly grown over the past few years, we have seen the number
of contestants swell from a handful eager participants to a
battalion of soca warriors! When the dust settles after several
nights of judging in the calypso tents, 19 finalists will advance to
battle the reigning Monarch for the supreme title of the 2006 Party
Monarch and ruler of the 'Calypso Bowl'.

Pic-O-De Crop Finals

One of the
more popular events during Crop Over Festival is certainly the
Finals of the Pic-O-De-Crop competition. The competition is strongly
supported by locals and is the of weeks of tent performances
by the calypsonians, who each sing two songs before a panel of
judges. Points are awarded based on lyrics, content,
performance, melody and diction.

Fore-day-Morning Jam
[August 1st 2009]
In the wee
hours of the morning revellers jump from Independence Square to
Spring Garden Highway to the sweet strains of tuk bands and massive
music trucks, blasting out all the hottest tunes of the season. In
recent times we have seen more organised bands in costume for this
event, but the word 'costume' is used loosely and basically means
't-shirt and short pants cover with mud' and an array of paint
plastered on the bodies and faces of the revellers.

Bridgetown Market
[August 1st to 3rd 2009]
The
infamous Spring Garden Highway is the place to be for the final
three days of the festival. The entire stretch of road is converted
to a marketplace of bajan art and craft, local produce, local and
regional fashion and foods of all kinds. Visitors can also enjoy a
wide variety of entertainment from tuk bands, steelbands, dance
groups, folk and gospel groups and calypsonians.

Cohobblopot
[August 2nd 2009]
The last
big party of the Festival! This event is a who's who among the
hit-makers of the Season and the final chance to preview the line-up
of contenders for the Tune of the Crop competition, passionately
known as 'de Road March Tune'. This also where the King and Queen of
the Band titles are awarded. After which the most popular songs
likely to be heard on the road the following day are performed.

Grand Kadooment
[August 3th 2009]
You could
cut the excitement in the air with a knife! This is the seasons'
climax! This is KADOOMENT DAY! This day, revellers are decked in the
most beautiful orgy of colours. Feathers, sequins, beads, glitter
body paint, with a splash of energy, revellers 'jump' from the
National Stadium to Spring Garden Highway awash with the colours of
Crop Over. The colours and designs of the costume bands presented by
the creative masquerade designers are judged in a number of
categories; Most Colourful, Biggest Band, Most Topical to name a
few, and most coveted, Band of the Year.
